The Ghana Education Service (GES) Clarifies Lesson Note Submission Methods for Teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued new guidelines for teachers in primary and secondary schools across the nation on Lesson Note Submission Methods.

Traditionally, teachers in Ghanaian schools utilized dedicated Teacher Lesson Note Books provided by the school, where headteachers documented and reviewed weekly subjects before implementation.

The G.E.S. mandated teachers to submit lesson plans every Monday, considering it a vital part of their responsibilities, with non-compliance potentially leading to disciplinary action.

Over the years, this practice became ingrained in the G.E.S. system. However, recent modifications to the curriculum and educational systems have introduced challenges.

To address this, in a significant change for 2024, the GES directed district/municipal/metropolitan directors of education to accept lesson notes in both handwritten and electronically generated formats. This flexibility allows teachers to submit notes either in print or via email.

Recognizing the existing misunderstanding between headmasters and teachers in various schools regarding lesson notes, the GES clarified that notes can now be either handwritten or electronically prepared. They can be submitted physically or via email, providing educators with more flexibility in meeting these requirements.

In a statement released on January 17, the GES acknowledged the confusion arising from recent modifications to the curriculum and educational systems. The service emphasized that lesson notes, whether in handwritten or electronic form, are acceptable, with regional directors instructed to communicate this development to district, municipal, and metropolitan directors of education.
