The National Service Authority (NSA) has begun screening and medical examinations for preselected National Service Personnel who want to take part in its Basic Military Training Programme.
The exercise runs for six days, from Monday, November 2, to Saturday, November 7, 2026.
The NSA announced the dates in a notice issued on Sunday, November 1. It said the screening will determine the eligibility and medical fitness of prospective participants before the training starts.
Only personnel who were preselected after expressing interest in the programme are affected. The Authority has asked them to take note of the dates and make the necessary arrangements to take part.
NSA military training screening runs from November 2 to 7
The screening and medical tests form part of what the NSA called its “preparatory processes” for selecting personnel who meet the requirements for the Basic Military Training Programme.
The Authority did not publish screening centres or reporting times in the notice. It said these details, along with any other requirements, will be communicated “through the appropriate channels.”
Preselected personnel have been urged to watch closely for further instructions so they do not miss any stage of the exercise.
Who qualifies for the national service military training
The screening is open only to National Service Personnel (NSPs) who signed up for the programme and were preselected. The NSA has previously said participation in the military training is voluntary.
When the Authority first outlined the pilot in June 2025, it said interested applicants could express interest during the regular online registration. It also said no service person would lose their work placement because of the training.
Applicants still need to pass the medical examination before they can be confirmed for the training.
How the Basic Military Training Programme started
President John Dramani Mahama first announced military training for national service personnel in his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025.
The NSA later said it would pilot a six-week Basic Military Training programme with the Ministry of Defence and other agencies. The stated aim was to build discipline, resilience, teamwork and an understanding of national security among young graduates.
In March 2026, 40 service personnel posted to TDC Ghana Ltd completed a two-week Basic Military Orientation Programme at the Ghana Armed Forces’ 1st Infantry Battalion at Michel Camp, near Tema. NSA Director-General Ruth Dela Seddoh said at the passing-out that the programme is not meant to militarise young people.
Military training funding and key figures
In August 2026, Ms Dela Seddoh said President Mahama had provided GH¢40 million to begin basic military training for National Service personnel.
- Screening period: Monday, November 2 – Saturday, November 7, 2026
- Government funding announced: GH¢40 million (August 2026)
- March 2026 pilot: 40 personnel (22 male, 18 female) at Michel Camp
- Pilot length: two weeks (March 9–25, 2026)
- Original plan: six-week programme announced in June 2025
- 2026/2027 PIN codes released by the NSA: 121,754
The NSA has not said how many personnel were preselected for this round or how long the training will last. Those taking part this year can also check our earlier report on the National Service registration deadline extension for 2026/2027.
What the screening means for national service personnel
For preselected personnel, the next six days decide whether they move on to the training. Missing the screening could mean losing the chance to take part.
Personnel who have not been preselected do not need to report. Official updates are expected from the National Service Authority and its announced channels.
What happens next
The NSA is expected to release screening centres and reporting schedules to affected personnel. After the medical examinations, those found eligible and fit will be selected for the Basic Military Training Programme.
The Authority has not yet announced a start date for the training itself.
