Video: Chaos in Agbogbloshie as the military clashes with scrap dealers over decongestion exercise

As part of the “Make Accra Great Again” agenda, the traders at the Agbogbloshie market have been asked to relocate to Adjen Kotoku to help make way for a new modern market to be structured at the shopping centre.

Earlier this afternoon, a joint team of the military together with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly task force stormed the Agbogbloshie old market with bulldozers and other heavy types of machinery to destroy all the erected structures on the land.

It was all peaceful during the genesis of the decongestion exercise until scrap dealers who go about their business in the market refused to allow their shops to be destroyed by the AMA taskforce.

According to them, they were not served with an eviction notice from the AMA prior to the decongestion exercise hence they won’t vacate their area not today nor tomorrow.

In the quest to tell the whole of the world how they have unfairly been treated by the AMA, they took to the streets to burn car tyres and also decorate their heads with red clothes and scarves.

Meanwhile, the onion sellers at the market have peacefully exited the old Agbogbloshie market to their new area which is the Adjen Kotoku market.
