The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has criticized Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament, for his comments on the chaotic incidents recorded at various collation centers during the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on December 13, 2024, Asiedu Nketiah argued that Afenyo-Markin had no moral authority to blame the NDC for the incidents, suggesting that such criticisms were misplaced, given the NPP’s alleged role in fueling political tensions. “He should rather focus on his dwindling majority status in Parliament,” Nketiah remarked.
The NDC Chairman further mocked the NPP for losing key parliamentary seats despite having previously used their majority to dominate legislative processes. He suggested that Afenyo-Markin should refrain from advising the NDC on electoral matters, hinting that the NPP caucus leader could soon find himself leading a “micro-minority” in Parliament.
Asiedu Nketiah’s remarks underscore the heightened tensions between the two major political parties as the dust settles from the contentious elections. Both parties continue to trade blame over incidents of violence and irregularities during the electoral process.
Asiedu Nketiah ‘s Comments directed at Afenyo Markin
Now I heard my junior brother Afenyo-Markin, having rejected the position of the minority leader, is now on his way to becoming a micro-minority leader, bragging that he belongs to a party of rule of law and all that.
Who doesn’t know about NPP? We in the NDC don’t need lectures from Afenyo-Markin on democracy. If there were any need for lectures in impunity, then we will invite him as our lecturer, but if it is about democracy, then he must shut up, he said.
