Tumultuous political events have unfolded on October 13, 2023, the vetting process for National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirants in Odododiodio constituency faced disruption as violence erupted at the regional party office in South La, Greater Accra Region
Chaos ensued when members of one candidate’s camp, dissatisfied with the vetting committee, damaged party assets, including chairs and an air conditioner, and launched stones at the committee members, accusing them of unfairness.
The vetting session, crucial for determining the eligibility of three aspirants for the party’s parliamentary primary scheduled for October 31, 2023, was marred by this unfortunate incident. Notably, aspirant Michael Nii Yarboi Annan successfully navigated the vetting process, standing out amidst the disruptions.
The disrupted proceedings unfolded as Nii Okai Laryea, Kotey Ashie, and Michael Nii Yarboi Annang sought to secure the parliamentary candidacy, vying to succeed the incumbent MP, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, who has decided not to seek re-election.
The incident casts a shadow over the political landscape in Odododiodio, underscoring the challenges faced in ensuring a fair and orderly electoral process.
Mr Anang was a former Member of the New Patriotic Party among the aspirants to become the Parliamentary Candidate for the Odododiodio Constituency on the ticket of the NDC.
