The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has officially declared its readiness for the imminent district-level elections set to transpire on Tuesday, December 19

With over 66,000 contenders vying for assembly and unit committee positions, the stakes are high for the forthcoming local polls.

According to the EC’s statistics, this extensive pool comprises 18,755 assembly member candidates and 47,502 unit committee member candidates, collectively totaling 66,257 candidates.

Dr. Sereboe Quarcoo, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, conveyed that meticulous preparations have been undertaken to ensure the seamless execution of the elections.

Speaking to Citi News, he emphasized the advanced state of preparations geared towards guaranteeing a well-organized and successful electoral process. Dr. Quarcoo underscored the commitment to addressing any potential challenges, thereby instilling confidence in the electorate regarding the integrity of the upcoming polls.

With the exception of ballot papers, all the materials are there, and when we are going, we don’t go with partial delivery; we go with full delivery, so we are not expecting to have shortages. All things being equal, in case there are shortages, the district office will respond to such shortages

In light of the significant number of candidates and the crucial nature of these elections, the EC has prioritized the assurance of ample provisions.

Dr. Sereboe Quarcoo affirmed that every precaution has been taken to avert any shortage of electoral materials at any polling station on the designated Tuesday. This proactive approach is a testament to the EC’s commitment to a fair and efficient electoral process.
