During the 2024 Strategy Session in Atlanta, USA, over the weekend, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and his government to return all the state funds they are accused of misappropriating.

Mr. Nketiah emphasized that Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) still have the opportunity to rectify their actions by returning the purportedly looted money.

This comes at the backdrop of myriad complaints by the opposition party and Ghanaians who have grumbled on what they describe corrupt and embezzlement of state funds by public officers and some politicians.

Nketiah mentioned that President Akufo-Addo’s main concern seems to be his legacy after leaving office. He suggested that Akufo-Addo could safeguard his reputation by rectifying the situation and returning the alleged looted state funds before stepping down.

The NDC plans to track and reclaim all state funds taken during the current administration and stored in offshore accounts. Nketiah highlighted the party’s commitment to this cause, stating that they would pursue the return of these funds once they take office.

Nana Akufo-Addo and his government can be likened to a person who is riding a tiger. If you get down, you will be devoured, and if you stay on the back of the tiger, you will die of hunger. They are not worried about leaving power, but their real problem is what happens after leaving power.

They still have time to return all the looted funds or hold onto them and face the consequences. So, those who can communicate with NPP people, let them know that it is our duty to save this country, and one of the ways to save this country is to take over power and hold each and every office bearer accountable for their stewardship, he remarked.
