The Minority Caucus in Parliament has issued a stern warning against any further delays in the approval process of the bill concerning the promotion of traditional Ghanaian family values and the regulation of human sexual rights, more commonly referred to as the anti-gay bill.

Expressing their firm stance, the Minority Caucus emphasized their unwillingness to entertain any hindrances to the bill’s progress.

Recently, Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin stirred controversy by filing a motion aimed at initiating a second consideration of the bill, just ahead of its potential passage.

Afenyo-Markin’s proposal sought to substitute imprisonment penalties with community service, sparking discussions and debates within the legislative chamber.

Consequently, the House found itself compelled to resume discussions on approximately thirteen clauses within the bill during the specified session held on Wednesday, February 21.

Minority Chief Whip, Governs Agbodza, urged Afenyo-Markin to conclude any necessary consultations pertaining to his proposed amendments before the designated date. He issued a firm caution, asserting that any actions perceived as deliberate delays beyond the specified timeframe would be met with opposition from the Minority Caucus.

In light of these developments, the Minority Caucus’s warning underscores their commitment to expeditiously addressing the bill while upholding Ghanaian cultural values and the rights of its citizens. Their vigilance in ensuring a timely and transparent legislative process reflects their dedication to representing the interests of the Ghanaian populace.
