The Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) has ultimately been confirmed by the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as his running mate of the flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming general elections.
The announcement on Thursday erupted joy among the supporters of the Energy Minister and some party faithfuls, however some party members reportedly have assured to oppose the choice in coming days.
The meeting was held following myriad reports suggesting that the National Council and the National Executive Council, and the National Steering Committee of the party would convene such meeting to see to the proposed running mate.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh who was fiercely opposed by many for his comments on Dumsor and other commentary he’s made about students and educational system in the country has apparently crossed what many describe as a hurdle that could impede his goal of being a running mate.
The Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh is notably known as NAPO and also a member of Parliament for Manhyia South and former Education Minister.
