The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected Ernest Yaw Anim in its internal election prior to the upcoming Kumawu constituency by-election which comes off on May 23, 2023

REASON FOR THE KUMAWU NPP PARLIAMENTARY PRIMARIES

This has become necessary following the demise of the Member of Parliament for Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, Philip Atta Basoah.

The late Member of Parliament was just 53 years old when he reportedly died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on March 28, 2023.

And as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution, vacancy created by the death of sitting Member of Parliament must be legally occupied through By-elections.

Mr. Anim won with 195 votes to surpass his closest contender, Ama Serwaa, and three other candidates.

The New Patriotic Party has stated that it will do all it will do all it can to retain the parliamentary seat as it seeks to commence campaign to ensure the by-election is won by the ruling party.

Mr. Anim also reaffirmed this commitment to regain the seat in his acceptance speech as he assured to iron out all differences among party members in the constituency.
