Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has made certain documents public alleging some exorbitant spending made by the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the African Games.
According to the MP, The “LOC has officially verified” the extensive expenditure of US$48 million (GHS602 million) designated for “operational expenses” during the hosting of the 13th African Games by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.
He further opined that the allocation is separate from the US$195 million (GHS2.4 billion) already allocated, primarily for infrastructure development. Despite the discrepancy between the approved budget and actual spending, the LOC’s press statement sidesteps addressing the critical concern of surpassing the approved GHS100 million by Parliament.
Mr. Ablakwa also mentioned that “Particularly perplexing is the LOC’s assertion that they can only furnish a breakdown of the US$48 million (GHS602 million) after the conclusion of the games. This evasive response raises questions about the rationale behind such substantial expenditure without a detailed breakdown.”

Morocco spent €46million in hosting the African Games in 2019.
The Moroccan figure includes expenditure on infrastructure, sports equipment, transport and all operational expenses.
Comparatively, bankrupt IMF-bailout Ghana is spending $243million.
