kennedy agyapong questions alleged finance minister's (ken ofori atta) influence of vice president dr. bawumia

The outspoken and controversial Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a staunch member of the New Patriotic Party has questioned what he calls ‘an influence of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’.

According to the Assin Central MP, the inability of the Vice President to fully discharge his duty and effectively work as the head of the economic management team is as a result of the Finance Minister’s influence.

If I’m a Vice President, how can a Finance Minister bully me? Kennedy Agyapong questioned.

The Ghanaian economy under the NPP has faced enormous challenges resulting in what Ghanaians term as the worst and harshest economic times.

Prior to the elections, that led the NPP to power, Most Ghanaians regarded and revered the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia as the economic wizard who would save Ghana’s economy from total collapse, but that narrative has changed with most policy analysts questioning the Vice President’s competencies in salvaging an ailing economy.

Others have said, the Vice President has rather resorted to digitalization of the economy instead of pivoting the economic management team, which he heads to effectively revamp the Ghanaian economy.

The Assin Central MP has opined about claims that the Finance Minister is hindering the Vice President’s ability to work effectively in that regard as all economic indicators point to the wrong direction.

His recent comments according to some section of the public and politicians lay credence to claims of influence pounced on the Vice President by the Finance Minister.

In his speech during a meeting with members of the party in Bolgatanga, Kennedy Agyapong lamented losing some colossal amounts of money amounting to $12 million.

From March this year to August this year, through exchange rate, I have lost $12 million. So today I don’t even count it, He said.

The Ghanaian public and some political commentators have said that this recent outburst by the Assin Central MP may be the beginning of a heated battle to become the Presidential Candidate for the NPP in the 2024 general elections as President Akuffo Addo’s term comes to an end.

Apparently, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan Kyeremanteng and the Assin Central MP, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, have all openly expressed their interest in running for the candidacy for the New Patriotic Party and are all regarded as potential winners.
