Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, has pledged to offer free tertiary education to all eligible individuals with disabilities in Ghana if he becomes president.
This commitment was made during his nationwide tour when he met with members of the clergy in the Western North Region. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that although scholarships should be accessible to all students, his administration would prioritize awarding scholarships to persons with disabilities to ensure they have equal opportunities for higher education.
His proposed scholarship plan aims to support students with disabilities by covering both academic and residential fees, starting from 2025. This initiative is expected to facilitate greater access to tertiary education for these individuals.
By focusing on education for people with disabilities, Bawumia seeks to promote inclusivity and support their academic aspirations. His promise represents a key aspect of his campaign and vision for an equitable educational system in Ghana.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ‘s Pledge if Elected President of Ghana
I am very clear on the way forward. I believe that for persons with disabilities, we are going to support them a bit more. We are giving scholarships to every person but I am going to dedicate some of the monies to our scholarship secretariat and the GET Fund to provide free tertiary education; both tuition and accommodation to every person with a disability who makes it into the university so they can all benefit, he mentioned.
