The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Primaries concluded with notable victories, surprising defeats, and retained candidacies across designated constituencies and Adwoa Sarfo losing to Mike Ocquaye Jr.
With 321 candidates vying for tickets in the 2024 parliamentary elections, 33 candidates emerged unopposed under the supervision of the Electoral Commission.
NPP Parliamentary Primaries: Wins, Losses and Retained
In the Heman Lower Denkyira Constituency, the CEO of Exim Bank, Lawrence Agyisam, clinched victory over incumbent MP Bright Wireko-Brobby with a commanding 273 votes to 176. Similarly, Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh secured a resounding win in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency with 734 votes, defeating his opponent, Hayford Siaw.
In the closely-watched contest in the Ayawaso Central Constituency, Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey retained his candidacy, securing 594 valid votes, while in Akim Swedru, Controller and Accountant General Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem faced disappointment, losing to incumbent MP Kennedy Osei.
However, amidst the losses, several incumbents retained their candidacies, including Kobina Tahir (K.T.) Hammond in Adansi Asokwa, Francis Asenso-Boakye in Bantama, and Ursula Owusu-Ekufful in Ablekuma West. Their victories signify the continued trust and support of party members in their leadership.
As the dust settles from the primaries, the NPP gears up for the 2024 parliamentary elections, with candidates prepared to rally support and face their opponents on the political battlefield.

The primaries also witnessed surprising upsets, with incumbents like Gifty Twum-Ampofo losing to Nana Ampaw Addo-Frempong in Abuakwa North, and Tina Mensah conceding to Jerry Ahmed Shaib in Weija Gbawe. Notable among the defeated incumbents was Sarah Adwoa Safo, who lost her seat in Dome Kwabenya to Mike Ocquaye Jr.
