President-elect John Dramani Mahama is poised to fulfill his 2024 campaign promise of tackling corruption head-on through his signature initiative, Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

As a cornerstone of his governance agenda, ORAL underscores Mahama’s commitment to recovering stolen public assets and promoting accountability in public office. To ensure the effective implementation of this anti-corruption drive, Mahama has assembled a high-caliber task force comprising respected professionals from diverse fields. The team includes Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who will serve as Chairman; former Auditor-General Mr. Daniel Domelovo; retired police officer COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye; legal practitioner Mr. Martin Kpebu; and investigative journalist Mr. Raymond Archer.

Mahama has reiterated his resolve to “hit the ground running” by empowering this team to investigate, recover, and prosecute instances of corruption, particularly from the previous administration. This aligns with his broader vision to restore integrity and public trust in governance.

Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Ablakwa stated, “Our work will be guided by fairness and professionalism, ensuring that we hold those accountable without fear or favor.” The inclusion of high-profile figures like Domelovo and Archer has been hailed as a signal of Mahama’s seriousness about the fight against corruption.

The task force’s mandate includes probing allegations of misappropriation of state resources, recovering stolen assets, and channeling them toward critical national development projects. Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu emphasized the importance of ensuring due process in the prosecution of offenders, while also fostering a culture of transparency.

Public reception to ORAL has been mixed, with some praising it as a bold step toward accountability, while others express concerns about potential political biases. Nonetheless, the task force has assured Ghanaians that their operations will remain impartial and evidence-based. As Mahama prepares to assume office, the success of ORAL will be closely watched both locally and internationally as a litmus test for his administration’s commitment to governance reforms and the rule of law.
