In an unprecedented historic moment, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has secured a groundbreaking position as the First Black Monarch to grace the pages of the highly esteemed 2024 Pirelli Calendar
The Pirelli Calendar, initiated in 1964 under the trademark “The Cal,” is an exclusive annual trade calendar produced by the UK subsidiary of the renowned Italian tire manufacturer. Notably, this calendar maintains a limited availability of 20,000 printed copies each year.
Unlike typical calendars available for purchase, the Pirelli Calendar is not for sale. Instead, it is reserved as a coveted corporate gift, distributed exclusively to celebrities and select Pirelli customers. This exclusive nature enhances its prestige and makes Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s inclusion a truly exceptional honor.
One overly excited Facebook user shared the post expressing his excitement and that attracted other well-meaning Ghanaians and critics alike with comments on the post.
Adding another layer of significance to this milestone is the involvement of Prince Gyasi, the King’s grandson, who has become the inaugural Black photographer for the Pirelli Calendar since its inception.
This dual achievement of the Asantehene’s feature and Prince Gyasi’s role as a photographer will be unveiled in the 2024 edition of the calendar, coinciding with the King’s Silver Jubilee – an auspicious celebration of his twenty-five years on the throne.
