As journalists continue to be at the forefront of holding the government accountable, their calls at the event reflected the national sentiment that more needs to be done to combat illegal mining. The widespread destruction caused by *galamsey* has drawn significant public outcry, with many expressing concerns over its long-term effects on communities and natural resources.

Notably, remarks about the galamsey crisis may have prompted a viral reaction from President Akufo-Addo at the awards ceremony. His response has since spread across social media, fueling further discussion about the government’s approach to the issue and the urgent need for effective solutions to the ongoing crisis.
