Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah has disclosed that 30 more factories are almost completed under the One District One Factory project.
This he disclosed in a speech at the 23rd Regional Annual General Meeting of the Ashanti, Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Branch of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) in Kumasi. He added under this initiative, the region already is benefiting from 21 out of the 125 factories which are already in operation.
The Regional Minister explained that government is concerned about drifting from taxation to production hence the initiative and the launch of same in 2017 which seeks to promote manufacturing.
He also added that the GhanaCARES ‘Obatanpa’ Programme aid government in supporting manufacturing and Pharmaceuticals firms amidst the impact of COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
“One of the objectives of the GhanaCARES ‘Obatanpa’ Programme is to support the private sector particularly agribusiness, manufacturing, ICT and digitalization,” he said.
Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah advised the Association to collaborate with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority and capitalize on the advantages of the Authority’s work in diversification of its exports.
According to the Minister, the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat location in Ghana will breed several opportunities for the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) hence the need to establish export-oriented companies to help boost the country’s industrialization agenda.
