Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has been trending for the last couple of days due to her resilience to break Guinness World Records Sing-a-thon record

Ghanaian media figure Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, with official approval from Guinness World Records (GWR), embarks on an ambitious singing marathon, seeking to surpass the existing record. Mrs. Aduonum has successfully completed the first day of her challenging endeavor, part of a singathon lasting between 117 to 120 hours. During this marathon, she exclusively performs Ghanaian songs spanning Highlife, Hiplife, and Gospel genres.

In her pursuit of the longest solo singathon, each song is limited to a maximum of two minutes, and repetitions are allowed only within GWR rules, following a four-hour break. As a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment, Mrs. Aduonum aims to break the 2012 record set by Indian Sunil Waghmare, standing at 105 hours. The scheduled December singing marathon has gained substantial support from the Ghanaian community on social media.

While skepticism exists regarding her ability to surpass the current record, optimism prevails, fueled by widespread backing from Ghanaians. The record-breaking attempt is scheduled from December 24-27, 2023, adding anticipation to this extraordinary musical feat.

In a video circulating on social media, posted by GhanaTrends on X (formerly Twitter), Afua Asantewaa was seen receiving prayers to continue her pursuit as more celebrities show up to support her.

This remarkable endeavor follows GWR’s recent acknowledgment of Nigerian chef Hilda Baci for the longest marathon cooking session. The Guinness World Records book, an annual showcase of human achievements since 1955, documents extraordinary feats. Formerly known as “The Guinness Book of World Records,” it changed its name in 1999.

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s preparation involves adhering to GWR’s stringent guidelines. Her singing must be continuous, with brief pauses of no more than 30 seconds allowed. Accompaniment is optional, but musicians have restrictions, including a maximum playtime of four hours before a four-hour break. Repetition within four hours is prohibited, and improvisation is not allowed according to GWR’s guidelines. With determination and only 24 hours of prior experience, Mrs. Aduonum is poised to captivate audiences, showcasing Ghana’s musical richness and her resolve to push boundaries.
