The inspection, conducted by security officials upon the aircraft’s arrival, revealed that the Antonov-12B, a Soviet-era cargo plane, was carrying oil drills and jerrycans filled with oil, intended for the European Union market. This disclosure came as a direct response to claims made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, a prominent opposition lawmaker, who had alleged that the flight was transporting illicit substances and cash from Gran Canaria, a location often linked to drug trafficking concerns.

The Antonov-12B, known for its robust design and history of transporting heavy equipment, aligns with the government’s assertion that the cargo was legitimate and related to oil industry operations. The flight, which originated from Luanda, Angola, had stopped in Ghana for a technical inspection due to the country’s facilities for scanning items destined for the EU market, as explained by Kwakye Ofosu.

The released footage shows security personnel meticulously examining the cargo, with close-up images of the oil drills and jerrycans, aiming to dispel misinformation and reassure the public about the integrity of airport operations amidst growing political tension and public scrutiny.

This development follows a heated online exchange between Kwakye Ofosu and Rev. Ntim Fordjour, highlighting the contentious nature of the allegations. In response to the opposition’s claims, President John Dramani Mahama ordered a thorough investigation into the matter, urging investigative agencies to collaborate with the lawmaker to uncover the truth.
