The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Ken Ofori-Atta corruption investigation update; former Finance Minister removed from wanted status
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially removed former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta from its list of wanted persons after he provided a definite date for his voluntary return to Ghana. This decision marks a significant shift, as Ofori-Atta had previously not indicated a clear timeline for his return despite being under investigation for alleged corruption-related offenses.
On February 12, 2025, the OSP declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive, citing his failure to comply with directives to appear in Accra for questioning. However, on February 18, 2025, his legal representatives communicated with the OSP, confirming a specific date for his return. The Special Prosecutor, after reviewing the circumstances, accepted this new timeline and subsequently rescheduled Ofori-Atta’s mandatory appearance at the OSP.

As a result, the OSP has ceased to consider Ofori-Atta a fugitive, pending his voluntary return. However, the office has made it clear that if he fails to return and attend the rescheduled interview, he will be re-listed as a wanted person, and legal measures will be taken to enforce his compliance.
This development comes amid heightened scrutiny over corruption-related cases involving high-profile figures in Ghana. The OSP’s firm stance signals a commitment to accountability.
