One may ask, What is breast cancer? Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast form cancerous cells and grow out of control. It occurs rarely in men but often in women.
There are different kinds of breast cancer depending on which cells in the breast turn into cancer.
Kinds of Breast Cancer
- Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) …
- Invasive breast cancer (ILC or IDC) …
- Triple-negative breast cancer. …
- Inflammatory breast cancer. …
- Paget disease of the breast. …
- Angiosarcoma. …
- Phyllodes tumor.
Ductal or lobular carcinoma
Carcinomas breast cancers are popular, this kind are tumors that start in the epithelial cells that line organs and tissues throughout the body. Carcinomas form in the breast, and are usually a more categorical type called adenocarcinoma,
They start in cells in the ducts (the milk ducts) or the lobules (glands in the breast that make milk).
Invasive breast cancers
The kind of breast cancer is used to describe any type of breast cancer that has spread (invaded) into the surrounding breast tissue hence the term invasive (or infiltrating) breast cancer
Triple-negative breast cancer
This is an aggressive type of invasive breast cancer. With this kind, the cancer cells do not have estrogen or progesterone receptors (ER or PR) and do not make any or too much of the protein called HER2.
This can be a difficult cancer to treat and accounts for about 15% of all breast cancers in the world.
Inflammatory breast cancer
This kind of breast cancer is an aggressive type of invasive breast cancer. With this kind, cancer cells block lymph vessels in the skin, causing the breast to look “inflamed.” This kind is not common and accounts for about 1% to 5% of all breast cancers in the world.
Paget disease of the breast
Paget disease of the breast is rare and accounts for only about 1-3% of all cases of breast cancer. Paget disease of the breast starts in the breast ducts and spreads to the skin of the nipple and then to the areola- the dark circle around the nipple.
Angiosarcoma
Angiosarcoma is the kind of breast cancer which begins in cells that line blood vessels or lymph vessels. It can involve the breast tissue or the skin of the breast and may be related to prior radiation therapy in that area.
Phyllodes tumor
Phyllodes tumors are rare breast tumors. They develop in the connective tissue of the breast called stroma, carcinomas on the other hand develop in the ducts or lobules. While others are malignant (cancer), most are benign.
Breast cancer, known to be the most frequently diagnosed type of malignancy in women, has been the talk of town globally in this breast cancer awareness month and the public education and awareness have significantly increased especially among women.
Regular screening and genetic testing helps with early detection and can increase one’s chances of getting cured and in several cases, avoidable.
Center for Disease Control
According to the CDC, each year in the United States, about 264,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women and about 2,400 in men. About 42,000 women and 500 men in the U.S. die each year from breast cancer. Black women have a higher rate of death from breast cancer than White women.
Young ladies across the globe are advised to regularly get screened and checked for breast cancer to avert the possible cases of breast cancer.
The breast is one of nature’s beauties regardless the size and taking good care of it gives it the healthy lifestyle and beauty it deserves.
Which size is yours? Take good care of it.
Imagine a world without breast cancer, is that possible? yes it is.
