Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, made a significant declaration regarding his political future, revealing his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections
Addressing the public during a press conference held in Accra on Monday, September 25, 2023, Alan Kyerematen urged the people of Ghana to prepare for his independent candidacy.
Furthermore, Kyerematen announced his immediate resignation from the NPP, a political party he had been affiliated with since 1992. He justified his departure by expressing his disillusionment with the current state of the NPP, asserting that he no longer recognizes the party he once aimed to represent as Ghana’s president.
He attributed this drastic decision to what he termed the “hijacking” of the party by individuals he characterized as “unscrupulous party apparatchiks.”
In summary, Alan Kyerematen’s press conference on September 25, 2023, marked his official announcement of his independent candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections, accompanied by his resignation from the NPP due to his belief that the party had been taken over by unscrupulous elements, thus prompting his departure from the party he had long been associated with.
The NPP as it exists now has very little resemblance to the Party that I joined in 1992 and helped to nurture.
The Party has been hijacked by a selected group of Party leaders and elders, government appointees, behind the curtain power brokers” and some unscrupulous Party apparatchiks.
… I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 general elections as an independent presidential candidate, he remarked.
