In a significant development within the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer race, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Minister for Agriculture and a key aspirant, has gracefully accepted defeat to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
While the official results are yet to be declared, Afriyie Akoto confirmed his concession, emphasizing the unity and support needed for the NPP to successfully “Break the 8” in the upcoming elections.
Speaking exclusively to Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey, Afriyie Akoto expressed his admiration for Vice President Bawumia’s “emphatic victory.”
In a congratulatory tone, he acknowledged that the voice of the New Patriotic Party has spoken loudly, choosing Dr. Bawumia as the preferred leader for the upcoming elections in the following year.
The former Agriculture Minister took the opportunity to extend his congratulations directly to Vice President Bawumia and assured him of his unwavering support.
This graceful concession and pledge of support from Afriyie Akoto underscore the commitment to party unity and a collective effort to overcome the challenges of the “8-year election cycle jinx” that the NPP aims to break.
I have already called him to congratulate him on that and we will be meeting at the stadium for the official announcement and formalities but finally we are drawing a line in a very major historic event for the party which is choosing our leader for the coming years, Dr. Afriyie Akoto mentioned.
As the official results are awaited, this development highlights a pivotal moment in the NPP’s internal dynamics and sets the tone for a collaborative approach as they prepare to face the broader political landscape in the upcoming general elections.
