Revelation by NPP Presidential aspirant and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, shed light on the circumstances leading to Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, MP for the Effutu constituency, missing out on a coveted ministerial position
This disclosure unfolded during a radio interview on Kastle FM in Cape Coast.
According to Agyapong, Afenyo-Markin encountered a setback in securing the ministerial role, primarily linked to an issue with an agriculture bank. This predicament led to the president rejecting Afenyo-Markin for the position. Ultimately, the role landed in the hands of Mavis Hawa Koomson.
The NPP stalwart elaborated on the efforts made to advocate for Afenyo-Markin’s candidacy, emphasizing the president’s reluctance due to the unresolved issue involving the agriculture bank. Agyapong revealed that the president was so resolute in his decision that he wouldn’t even entertain Afenyo-Markin’s name for the role.
We were fighting for Alex Markin to get the ministerial position. But there was an issue with him involving the agric bank. The president didn’t even want to hear his name. So the most senior after Alex Markin was Hawa Koomson, and we got the position for her,” Agyapong explained during the radio interview.
Agyapong further asserted his influential role in propelling Hawa Koomson into the political spotlight. According to him, without his support, Koomson would have struggled to secure any political position, as he claimed that she lacked the necessary attention and backing until he intervened.
How would Hawa Koomson, who was based in the Central Region have gotten such a position. I was the one who created special initiatives for her. Anyone who is being considered for a ministerial position has to go through me, he added.
This revelation provides a glimpse into the intricate dynamics and challenges within the political landscape, showcasing how individual issues can shape the course of political appointments.
