Shalimar Abbiusi, former spokesperson of the New Force Movement, has initiated legal action against the Republic of Ghana, seeking one million dollars in compensation for alleged human rights violations.

Represented by her legal team led by Francis Xavier Sosu, Abbiusi filed a petition at the international ECOWAS Court on January 23, 2024, outlining nine reliefs related to perceived injustices and human rights violations.

An order directed at the Republic of Ghana to pay compensatory damages of Ghana Cedis equivalent of one million United States dollars (USD 1.000.000.00 to the applicant who is a victim of human rights violations by the Republic of Ghana, Section of the writ filed on January 23, 2024 read.

In December of the previous year, Abbiusi faced arrest and charges by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for allegedly falsifying information to obtain a student permit, a violation under section 52 (1) i) of the Immigration Act 2000 {Act 573).

However, the charges against her were subsequently dropped, and she was deported from the country. Dissatisfied with the circumstances surrounding her arrest, deportation, and subsequent public criticism directed at the GIS for alleged human rights abuses, Abbiusi’s legal representative, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has taken legal action against the state, seeking compensation on behalf of his client.
