The Ministry of Railways Development Ghana released a statement explaining the reason for the accident of the new train procured from Poland which was reportedly on a test run on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.
According to the Ministry, the incident occurred at 12;10 pm while there was a test of the train and ‘upon approaching the curve at KM76+100, encountered a stationary vehicle stationed right across the rail track.
The Ministry further explained that the emergency brake which was applied upon sighting the truck could not prevent the train from the crash.

Driver Sentenced to Jail for Role in New Train Accident in Ghana
Abel Dzidotor, the driver implicated in a train accident, has been sentenced to six months in jail. Dzidotor admitted guilt to three of the four charges against him, including inconsiderate driving and causing unlawful damage.
He faced penalties including a 100 penalty unit fine for careless driving and a 20 penalty unit fine for unauthorized stopping. The most significant charge was for causing unlawful damage, resulting in his six-month jail sentence with hard labor. While Dzidotor pleaded not guilty to failing to produce a driver’s license, he must present the license to the court by May 9, 2024, or face further consequences.
