The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has confiscated a shipment of firearms and ammunition at the Golden Jubilee Terminal, Tema Port.

The intercepted items include 53 pistols, 65 rounds of ammunition, 74 magazines, and a PC holster. This has sparked conversation among Ghanaians about the disturbing nature of firearms ahead of the country’s general elections.

Commissioner Brigadier Zibrim Ayorrogo confirmed the seizure occurred on Monday, November 18, with the shipment reportedly imported from the United States. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the consignment to ensure compliance with Ghana’s firearm regulations.

The Customs Division emphasized its commitment to maintaining national security, urging the public to support their efforts by reporting any suspicious activities involving illegal imports. Security agencies have been involved to assist with further investigations into the origins and intended recipients of the shipment.
