Tensions flared as legislators from both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament engaged in a heated verbal clash concerning the government’s handling of the severe flooding triggered by the Akosombo Dam spillage
The uproar reached a point where microphones on both sides remained active, rendering the cacophony indecipherable on the parliamentary floor.
Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh had earlier led the Senior Management of the Volta River Authority (VRA) to provide MPs with a briefing on the spillage.
The Minister vehemently refuted allegations of mishandling by the VRA, contending that thorough sensitization efforts were undertaken. He further argued that not executing the spillage would have resulted in severe damage to the Akosombo Dam.
The Parliamentary clash highlights the deep divisions and concerns among lawmakers regarding the government’s response to the flooding crisis, setting the stage for continued debates and scrutiny on the Akosombo Dam spillage aftermath.
Ghanaians have also slammed the government for his inability to provide lasting solutions since the devastation while others think families were not properly evacuated prior to the flooding.
