The Ghana Nurse and Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA) has urgently appealed to the government to address the issue of delayed allowance payments for trainee nurses and midwives

These allowances are critical for the trainees’ education and well-being. The association emphasizes the government’s responsibility to fulfill its promises and rectify the injustice faced by the trainees due to the prolonged delay, as it causes financial hardships and hampers their professional development.

GNMTA calls for immediate action to support the trainees and restore faith in the government’s commitment to the healthcare sector.

The Ghana Nurse and Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA) is concerned about the unpaid allowances that have been pending for over a year. The delay has had a significant impact on the trainees, who heavily rely on these allowances for their education and well-being.

Pascal Adumbisa, the President of the Association, stresses the importance of these allowances for the trainees’ clinical field and points out the burden it places on them. He asserts that trainee nurses and midwives contribute about 40% of health duty to the country and highlights that receiving their allowances is their right.

The Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA) urgently calls upon the government of Ghana to address the critical matter of trainee nurses and midwives’ allowances, which has remained unresolved for over a year. We implore the government to act swiftly and provide the necessary financial support to alleviate the burdens faced by trainees in this pressing matter.

Despite the initiation of several petitions submitted to the government of Ghana, no resolution has been achieved yet in regard to the payment of trainee nurses’ and midwives’ allowances. This prolonged delay has exacerbated the hardships faced by the trainees who depend on these allowances for their education and well-being. We humbly appeal to the government to prioritize and expedite the resolution of this matter immediately

Ghana in recent times has experienced exodus of large number of nurses from the country to seek better employment opportunities in the UK and other European countries due to the deteriorating economic conditions and this call may be the right one at just the right time.
