The Tema General Hospital has issued a response following the circulation of a video depicting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) operating in darkness amid a power outage, which has garnered attention and criticism on social media. online.
According to the hospital’s statement, the incident was attributed to a brief interruption in the generator’s functioning rather than a sustained power failure, calling it a brief power trip.
Dr. Richard Anthony, the medical director, acknowledged the occurrence, affirming that it took place on Tuesday, March 26, when the hospital relied on its backup power source due to an interruption in the national grid supply.
Ghanaians were infuriated following the trending video and many questions were tossed regarding backup power plans to safeguard lives in the hospital.
Contrary to speculation on social media, the hospital clarified that the power disruption was not a result of a major disconnection by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
