The President, Akufo-Addo, has chosen Abena Osei-Asare, Deputy Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Atiwa East constituency, to be a Minister of State at the Finance Ministry replacing Mohammed Amin Adam.

This change occurred after Ken Ofori-Atta left office on February 14, 2024, after serving for 7 years and 2 months. Ghanaians had grumbled about Ken Ofori-Atta’s performance as the then Minister for Finance with such complaints yielding no results. President of the republic in a defence assured Ghanaians of replacing Ken after the IMF deal had gone through but that also proved futile.

The President however took a dramatic turn in what many described as a ‘Valentine’s Day Ministerial Reshuffle’ which saw the Minister of Finance being replaced with Mohammed Amin Adam.

Mohammed Amin Adam, who was previously appointed as the substantive Finance Minister, now takes up a different role as Abena Osei-Asare is now the Minister for Finance.

Additionally, Dr Alexander Ampaabeng, the NPP 2024 parliamentary candidate for the Juaboso constituency in the Western North Region, has been appointed as the new Deputy Minister for Finance, following the promotion of Abena Osei-Asare to the position of a minister of state.
