Reports are that the Vice President of Ghana and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has submitted the Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh to President Akufo-Addo seeking the President’s approval.

The decision by the Vice President of Ghana has not come as a surprise to many following weeks of speculation and anticipation from the public as the main choice to partner the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO had been tipped by many especially among the NPP bigwigs to partner due to his description by many as respected in the Ashanti region and could be a good complement to Bawumia’s Ashanti region gap.

According to some sources from the presidency\ a meeting was convened on Tuesday which saw the proposition from Dr. Bawumia regarding his running mate and sought the President’s opinion on such choice of candidate.

Many have said that the proposal was endorsed by President Akufo-Addo following his assessment of  Dr Bawumia’s selection of the Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh despite his recent remarks in the power crisis which many have called and

The chosen candidate, the Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is a 56-year-old medical doctor. He  earned his degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He was first elected to Parliament in 2008 and has since been re-elected in 2012, 2016, and 2020.

He served on the Health Appointment and Defence and Interior Committees of Parliament and was appointed as Education Minister in 2017.
