An emerging political entity known as ‘The New Force’ has had its spokesperson Ms. Shalimar Abbiusi detained

New Force asserts that Ms. Abbiusi, responsible for the organization’s diaspora and diplomatic activities, was initially invited for a discussion on Monday, December 4, 2023, yet has not been released since that encounter.

The spokesperson had made her first public appearance in a video unveiling the group’s plans for the upcoming election, emphasizing the challenges faced by Ghanaians under the Akufo-Addo administration.

During the reported 4-day detainment by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), New Force claims that Ms. Abbiusi underwent continuous interrogation regarding the organization, its supporters, and potential presidential aspirations.

According to a press release on Thursday, December 7, The New Force contends that she has been denied legal representation, experienced an unauthorized search of her premises, and surpassed the legal 48-hour detention limit without formal charges.

Contrary to the authorities’ assertions of investigating New Force’s origins, the movement emphasizes that merely having a political organization does not constitute a criminal offense.

The arbitrary detention of Ms. Abbiusi, as highlighted in New Force’s press release, raises serious concerns about potential power abuse, persecution of perceived political adversaries, and numerous human rights violations.

Despite the fact that Ms Abbiussi’s residence permit was facilitated and issued to her over three years ago by the Ghana Immigration Service, the authorities today told a District Court that they have temporarily charged her with an offence claiming that one of the documents she submitted could not be verified. But that they are demanding that she is held in custody so that investigations into the New Force will continue.

We have witnessed rising attacks against the New Force including the taking down and targeted destruction of several billboards of the New Force. We consider that these actions reflect the approach of cowards and persons who have lost the moral plot of leadership. Press Statement by the New Force.

Authorities, casting doubt on the validity of Ms. Abbiusi’s residence permit, provisionally charged her with an offense, citing alleged document verification issues.
