ECG to Begin Nationwide Effort to Address Post-Paid Meter Billing Issues

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is launching a comprehensive four-week campaign to address billing discrepancies associated with post-paid meters across the nation

Termed as ‘Operation Fix the Bill, Pay the Bill,’ this initiative is a direct response to numerous customer complaints regarding inaccurate billing over recent months.

In a statement to JoyNews, Laila Abubakari, the External Communications Manager of ECG, emphasized that the primary objective of this exercise is to “enhance customer satisfaction, prevent power theft, and ensure timely payments, particularly from our postpaid customers who currently owe substantial amounts.”

For some few months now, one of our new processes has caused some issues with regards to estimated bills. Because of that, staff are being transformed into metre readers to go around to the premises of our customers, whether it’s in their residences, whether it’s in their businesses,  to capture the readings on their metres, and I’m referring to postpaid customers. Now, when that reading is taken and verified, customers will then be billed on this particular reading, she said.

This marks the third such initiative by the power distributor in the current year. Earlier, between March and June, ECG executed a revenue mobilization drive, recovering GH₵3.1 billion from a total debt of GHC 5.7 billion owed by both private and state entities. Subsequently, the company launched another revenue recovery effort focusing on domestic customers.

Abubakari highlighted the importance of rectifying billing issues, stating, “Addressing these problems will enable ECG to maximize revenue with the limited resources available. We urge our customers to cooperate fully with us in this new project, where we will diligently read all meters and provide accurate bills.”

As the company strives to improve its billing system and enhance customer relations, the operation underscores ECG’s commitment to delivering reliable and transparent services to its clientele.
