National Democratic Congress (NDC) has presented leaked audio of Godfred Dame, Ghana Attorney General and Minister of Justice, which it claims is evidence supporting the assertion made by the third accused in the ambulance purchase trial, Richard Jakpa to implicate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Jakpa has alleged that Attorney-General Godfred Dame sought his assistance to implicate the first accused, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson making the developing story the trending story of the week.
Richard Jakpa, a private businessman, along with Sylvester Anemana, the former Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, are on trial for causing financial loss to the state in connection with the purchase of ambulances for the National Ambulance Service. During the last hearing on May 23, Jakpa testified that Godfred Yeboah Dame had approached him to help implicate Dr. Ato Forson, the Minority Leader and former Deputy Finance Minister.
While under cross-examination by the counsel for the Minority Leader, Jakpa was cautioned by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe to be direct in his responses and avoid wasting the court’s time. Reacting to this, Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame accused Jakpa of defending Dr. Ato Forson.
This accusation prompted Jakpa to respond that the Attorney-General appeared aggrieved because he had previously asked Jakpa to help build a case against Dr. Forson. The ongoing trial and these allegations have raised significant concerns about the integrity of the judicial process and the conduct of the Attorney-General.
