"Today You Sleep And the Lights Go Off  But We Know That is Dumsor" - John Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama during his “Building the Ghana We Want” tour in the Upper West region,  recounted his tenure, citing honesty as a hallmark of his leadership, but the current Akufo-Addo’s administration has been dishonest with Ghanaians with  the power crisis popularly known as ‘Dumsor’.

He acknowledged that openly addressing challenges, including power shortages, was integral to his approach. Mahama emphasized his commitment to transparent communication with the Ghanaian people, underscoring his belief that honesty was paramount, even if it presented challenges.

Mahama contrasted his leadership style with the current Akufo-Addo administration, expressing concerns about their approach to addressing power cuts. He criticized the government’s failure to acknowledge challenges, particularly regarding erratic power supply, known as Dumsor. Mahama highlighted the public’s perception of the situation and advocated for the implementation of a load-shedding timetable to address the issue transparently. In his view, transparency in governance is essential for fostering trust and accountability within society.

Today every day you sleep and the lights go off and we know that they are shedding load. They have a problem with generation. Some generation assets are down. They have a problem with paying for gas.

And so we will just put off the light anytime and reduce the number of megawatts so the system won’t go down. But we don’t call it dumsor and so there is no dumsor but we know that it is dumsor, he said.
