The High Court in its decision has instructed the first witness Anas Aremeyaw Anas to appear unmasked, failing which the accused parties will be discharged and the case dismissed.
Accra high court is awaiting the outcome of the Court of Appeals decision regarding investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, before proceeding with the case.
The court has set a deadline of April 30, 2024, for its decision and that no significant action by April would lead to Nyantakyi’s discharge.
Background: Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Former GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi
Former GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi is facing charges of fraud by agent and corruption over his involvement in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s “#Number 12 exposé”.
Mr Nyantakyi and former Northern Regional GFA boss, Abdulai Alhassan, face charges of fraud by agent and corruption, along with co-accused Abdulai Alhassan.
The accused’s lawyer argued for the case’s dismissal, citing the inconvenience caused to the accused due to the prosecution’s delay in opening their case and calling witnesses.
The court has received requests for adjournments from the state’s attorney, citing official commitments as reasons for postponements. However, the High Court has proceeded to strike out witness statements from four other witnesses who have failed to testify despite the court’s repeated orders. The case has now been postponed to June 10, 2024, as the court continues to monitor the situation.
