Charles Kofi Adu Boahen, a Ghanaian politician, member of the New Patriotic Party and the Deputy Minister for Finance in Ghana has had his appointment terminated by the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo over what is believed to be corrupt practices captured  in Anas’ ‘Galamsey Economy’ documentary.

A statement from the office of the President, dated Monday, November 14, 2022, signed and issued by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin issued the termination with immediate effect.

The statement further explained the reason for his dismissal, and  that the President took the decision after being made aware of the allegations leveled against the Minister in the exposé titled, “Galamsey Economy.”

appointment termination

It is alleged that the Minister was found culpable and  captured in the documentary which is yet to be premiered, where  Mr Adu Boahen, requested  an investor to pay an appearance fee of $200,000 to enable a meeting between him and the Vice President.

According to reports, Mr Adu Boahen also allegedly asked the investor to make a promise to the Vice President, a promise to offer employment to his relatives to expedite his investment.

A statement from the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House indicated -“The President spoke to Mr. Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment,”

However, the Deputy Finance Minister has denied allegations of influence peddling and using the  Vice President’s name, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to receive bribes from investors.

In a statement that has surfaced online, the minister explained his innocence and debunked the allegation. He also assured to cooperate with all the relevant authorities in investigations.

It has come to my attention that a documentary to be aired by Tiger Eye Pl, and an article published in the Crusading guide of today seeks to accuse me of brokering deals for the Vice President of the Republic.

This follows an attempt to entrap myself and other persons in 2018.

Substantively I have not been involved in this act of which I am being accused.

I do not however wish to be a distraction to the Government and the Ministry of Finance at this crucial moment.

Consequently I have submitted my resignation to the President of the Republic. I will however look forward to a full investigation which I hope will reveal that I have not committed this act.

His claims seem to contradict the statement issued by the office of the President terminating his appointment.

Ghanaians have taken to social media to express their disappointment, some people however are not surprised with regards to the developing story as the earlier decision of the Accra International Conference Centre sought to disallow Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye P.I. team from premiering the ‘Galamsey Economy’ yesterday – decision which was again rescinded by the management of the AICC.
