President John Dramani Mahama has held discussions with Comoros President Azali Assoumani to explore potential areas of cooperation, focusing on infrastructure development, trade, and the possibility of visa-free travel between the two nations.

The high-level meeting, which took place at the Jubilee House in Accra, was part of President Assoumani’s state visit to Ghana, aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.

Welcoming his Comorian counterpart, President Mahama expressed gratitude for the visit and reflected on their previous engagements at the Energy Summit and the African Union (AU) retreat in Nairobi, Kenya. He highlighted the longstanding relations between Ghana and Comoros, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts in boosting trade and investment. The leaders also discussed avenues for deepening economic integration, particularly through strategic infrastructure projects that could facilitate easier movement of goods and services.

President Mahama further stressed the importance of platforms like the Africa Prosperity Dialogue (APD) in tackling low intra-African trade levels. He reiterated Ghana’s commitment to regional cooperation and called for initiatives that would accelerate economic partnerships across the continent. The meeting signals a renewed push for African nations to work together in fostering economic growth and development through diplomatic engagement and policy reforms.

Ghana and Comoros Trade Cooperation, Infrastructure, and Visa-Free Policies

Africa is a growing continent with great potential but there are low trade levels among our countries so believe that dialogue initiatives like the APD help us to address that,”

Many countries are adopting visa-free policies to make it easy for access and in Ghana, we believe that African people should be able to move freely among the continent and that is why we have introduced visa-free to most African countries,” President Mahama said.

We would want to trigger a permanent joint commission with Comoros and I am sure that this your visit will facilitate that process. Ghana is a home to all Africans just like I am sure Comoros is home to all of us. President Mahama said.
